 ADOPTION APPLICATION

We are a 501(c)3 non-profit animal welfare organization. Our mission is to rescue roadside dogs and cats, spay/neuter, medically and emotionally treat, then place them in loving, forever homes. We also work hard to raise awareness about pet issues such as nutrition, proper vaccination schedules and the importance of spay/neuter, foster, volunteering, adopting and donating to help our city and surrounding area shelters save as many lives as possible.

“My job is to assist God’s creatures
I was born with the need to fulfill their needs
I take in new family members without plan, thought, or selection
I have bought dog food with my last dime
I have patted a mangy head with bare hand
I have hugged someone vicious and afraid
I have fallen in love a thousand times and I have cried into the fur of a lifeless body . . . I notice those at the road side and my heart aches . . . rescue that makes the news gives me hope for mankind. We are a quiet but determined army and making a difference every day.
~ Annette King-Tucker, Animal Rescuer, Wild Heart Ranch Wildlife Rescue, Cleremore, Oklahoma

This is an excerpt from one of the most meaningful and powerful animal rescue poems we have come across.  Ms. King-Tucker says it all. We rescue roadside dogs because our hearts won’t allow us to ignore them.

There are hundreds of millions of abandoned pets in the world at any given time. This number is overwhelming.

“I must ask, then, why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?” To this, the young man replied, “The sun is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them in, they’ll die.” Upon hearing this, the wise man commented, “But, young man, do you not realize that there are miles and miles of beach and there are starfish all along every mile? You can’t possibly make a difference!” At this, the young man bent down, picked up yet another starfish, and threw it into the ocean. As it met the water, he said, “It made a difference for that one.”
~ The Star Thrower, by Loren Eiseley

Knowing that, to that one starfish, he made a difference is the reason we do what we do. We know that to each and every dog we find, we are making a difference for that one dog.  We will continue to save every one we can until there are no more to save.

Rescuing Pets is Not Enough

We also understand that we cannot rescue our way out of this problem.  Therefore, we work very hard to advocate and raise awareness about fostering, adopting, volunteering, spay/neuter, and donating.

The top ten reasons to spay/neuter your pet were killed in a shelter yesterday!

Until our world is cured of the cruelty and neglect of these beautiful creatures, we will continue to advocate and do all we can. This is not a choice, it is our hearts duty.

Our Mission

Because so much change and awareness is needed, our mission is not only to save roadside dogs but also to raise awareness to help Austin and surrounding shelters achieve and maintain a 90% save rate.

Since we officially began our work in 2009 , we have rescued over 60 roadside dogs and nurtured them back to emotional and physical health, including spay and neuter. We then begin the search for their perfect forever homes.

We have had our share of heartbreak but through love and patience we have had the pleasure of seeing these amazing beings grow and flourish then find a lifetime of love, comfort and safety in their forever homes.  Happily all are living spoiled, safe, comfy lives.
